At SMS, this dedicated care comprises 50 beds and everyday sees around 40-50 beds being admitted. In the last three months only, the specialised unit has been able to reduce mortality by 60-70%.
Not just that the unit was able to cut down those patients who would get themselves discharged without completing the course of treatment by 50 percent.
While earlier the patients admitted at polytrauma would get referred to other departments for further treatment in two and half days, now it is done within one and half days.
“The golden hour time period plays a crucial role in saving the life of the patient. This is a complete team effort and a combined input from various departments owing to which we have been able to achieve such remarkable change within a short time span,” said Dr Dinesh Gora, assistant professor, department of trauma surgery, SMS Hospital.
